“The formula of happiness and success is actually just being yourself.“

„Die Formel für Glück und Erfolg ist, dass du nur du selbst sein musst.“

With over 20 Oscar nominations, Meryl Streep is one of the most successful actresses of all time. Even when she was still at school, she was regularly on stage in the theatre and took opera singing lessons. She later studied drama at Yale University. When she received an Emmy for Best Actress in 1978, she gained international fame through the TV miniseries „Holocaust – The History of the Weiss Family“. Two years later she was awarded with her first Oscar for her performance in “Kramer vs Kramer”. Meryl Streep is particularly interested in the roles of non-conformist historical female figures. In the course of her career, she has played the suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst, the long-time Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham and the first female British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. The portrayal of the „Iron Lady“ earned the actress her third Oscar in 2012 – she donated her salary of 1 million US dollars to the National Women’s History Museum in Washington, of which she is the spokesperson. In addition, Meryl Streep is strongly committed to equal rights for women as well as the peace movement and environmental protection. In 2015, President Obama awarded her the highest civilian honour in the United States, the Medal of Freedom.
