“Art does not exist only to entertain, but also to challenge one to think, to provoke, even to disturb, in a constant search for truth.ˮ
„Kunst ist nicht nur da, um zu unterhalten, sondern auch, um zum Nachdenken anzuregen, zu provozieren, zu stören und die Suche nach der Wahrheit aufrecht zu halten.“
The successful entertainer, singer, actress and director cannot be pigeonholed. When Barbara Joan Streisand saw the light of day in Brooklyn, New York in 1942, there was nothing to suggest a glamorous life. Her father died shortly after she is born, and her mother tries to make a living as a school secretary. The Jewish girl loves to sing and already received awards for special achievements at school. In 1962 she signed her first record deal. Her debut “The Barbra Streisand Album” won two Grammys and the extraordinary career took its course. Numerous engagements on Broadway and television appearances follow. With the lead role in “Funny Girl” she celebrated her screen premiere in 1968 and was promptly awarded an Oscar. A few years later she won another one for her composition “Evergreen” from the film “A Star Is Born”. This makes her the first woman to receive the award in the “Best Film Music” category. The multi-talented star now looks back on over 60 music albums and tops the all-time charts with Elvis Presley and the Beatles. In her private life, Barbra Streisand is involved in numerous charitable causes and is co-founder of the Women’s Heart Alliance.
