She is the United States’ first Black First Lady and a powerful role model for girls and women around the globe. Michelle LaVaughn Robinson was born in Chicago in 1964 to a former butcher and secretary. She and her older brother grew up in a conventional home and she worked hard to make it to one of the prestigious elite universities. With success: in 1985 she graduated from Princeton University and moved to Harvard to study law. Three years later, she was awarded the Juris Doctor degree. After completing her studies, she would become an associate and practice law at a firm in Chicago, where she would meet her future husband, Barack. The two became a couple and had two children. When her husband announced his presidential candidacy in 2007, Michelle Obama’s life changed drastically. She interrupted her professional career to support his election campaign and met with great media interest. Two years later, the Obamas are the first African-American family to move into the White House. For eight years, the First Lady has been involved in the areas of family and education policy and campaigns against racism. In 2018 she published her autobiography “Becoming”, which was translated into 31 languages.
