Fearless Women
Fearless Women
On the occasion of International Day of Democracy on September 15th, the exhibition “Fearless Women” was opened on the park grounds of the LWL facilities in Warstein. The hospital department head of the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Association, Professor Dr. Meinolf Noeker, and the deputy mayor of the city of Warstein, Heike Kruse, gave a few greetings. The artist Oliver Schäfer was able to explain to the audience in a conversation why he has been portraying fearless women for several years and why the LWL park in Warstein is the ideal exhibition location for him.
Accompanying Oliver Schäfer’s exhibition, there was a lecture every Sunday on one of the women portrayed and the associated topic. These lectures were presented by employees of the LWL facilities, the city of Warstein or the Soest district. The artist also gave tours of the exhibition on a few dates.
The exhibition ended on Sunday, November 26th. With an annual memorial service, the Warstein LWL facilities and the city of Warstein honored the victims of euthanasia who were violently removed from the clinic at the time between 1941 and 1943 and cruelly murdered in concentration camps.
The closing event of the “Fearless Women” exhibition took place after the memorial service. On this occasion, the focus was on the portrait of Emilie Schindler. Professor Erika Rosenberg, biographer and long-time friend of Emilie Schindler, gave a lecture about Emilie, who, together with her husband, Oskar Schindler, saved over 1,200 people’s lives during the Second World War .
